Masai Mara here I come!

For the first time I sat right behind the pilot with Aakaash as his co pilot in a 13 seater small chartered plane. When we entered the air space of Masai Mara we tried to figure out the pin heads below and started our guess work as to which herd or animal it was. When the tiny aircraft landed on a patch of dirt airstrip in the middle of a jungle where a tower of giraffes and a herd of deer and zebras were there to welcome us - the feeling was sensational.

The open safari jeeps were there to whisk us to our Royal Mara Safari Lodge. The drive to the lodge was 45 mins but those 45 mins had our adrenaline pumping since what we didn’t know was that the drive was through the wild reserve where we saw deers, giraffes, wild beasts, gazelles, impalas, antelopes etc in their natural habitat.

On reaching Royal Mara we got a warm welcome from the staff and all of us quickly gulped our welcome drinks and headed for lunch which was set right next to the lagoon where the hippos were lazing around in the heat. The smell of scrumptious barbecued chicken filled the air and we suddenly found our stomachs rumbling and our feet automatically moved towards the beautiful buffet under the shade of colossal trees.

We were very eager to see our rooms hence were escorted with guards for each family. As we were in the middle of the jungle we were not allowed to move around without guards who carried guns, bow and arrows or sticks just incase wild  life encounter became too personal. Even if we had to go to our neighbor’s tent we had to call for a guard. There were stewards assigned to each room and they had told us how to signal them with a flash light at night . It’s never too easy to stay in a jungle.

I think I can write an entire blog just about the rooms. The rooms/tents were created on small stilts right next to the Hippo Bend Lagoon which has so many herds of hippopotamuses and even crocodiles. The tents had a wooden floor, on top of which was a tented cover with a wooden ceiling. It would be very hard to describe the room so if you have time, visit http://www.royalmara.com/accommodations.htm, it’s worth the time. 90% of the pictures in that are that of our room. So in short every room had a theme, ours was KIBOKO (Rhino theme) with beautiful carvings all over the room. The room was facing the lagoon and the only barrier between us and the wildlife was a zipped up canvas of tent which was open during the day and which we were compelled to zip up at night to prevent stray wild animals from sharing the room with us.

The beauty, the forest, the animals, the experience was a lot to take in. The moment we kept our luggage in the room, it was already time to go for our first ever “Game Drive”. We were totally intoxicated seeing Mother Nature and her children without any unwanted interference that we have always caused, in turn disrupting so many species and their lives. We saw deers, giraffes, wild beasts, gazelles, impalas, wild buffaloes, hyenas, jackals, wild bores, bat eared foxes, baboons, eagles, vultures and storks, just to name a few.

Nevertheless none of us had anticipated what we were going to see. All of a sudden a call came in on our driver’s phone and he turned the 4 wheel open jeep in a certain direction. Masai Mara is so huge that I kept wondering how would the drivers communicate and tell each other as to which direction or place to head to, especially since there are no sign boards anywhere. However, while I was busy talking to myself, the jeep came to a halt and the driver told us that today was our lucky day and pointed towards a cheetah which is very rare to spot.

No one could contain their excitement and the expression on everyone’s face was priceless. It still gives me goose bumps to recall the Cheetah so close to my open window and staring into my awe stricken eyes. We stayed and drove along with the Cheetah for quite some time but the expert driver knew that the Cheetah has a plan of its own and was on a hunt. For almost ½ an hour it was trying to focus on a prey but when its camouflage was busted, the gazelles and deers would warn their herd by making a strange noise and sprint away. I had always watched this on Animal Planet which use to be my permanent channel for a very long time and to see all this with my bare naked eyes was just amazing.

We started thinking that the Cheetah would eventually give up and wait for the night to find its kill but all of a sudden, the Cheetah sprinted in full speed and grabbed a wild baby boar. We were just digesting what we had witnessed when suddenly we saw that the parents of the piglet charged to attack the Cheetah who was still running with the boar in it's mouth but ultimately the Cheetah had to run away with a tattered ego and parental love saved the baby wild boar’s life to live another day. This scene had already made our trip a success and even if we had to return home the same very day we would have had no regrets but… we had another day and a ½ to see the beautiful Masai Mara and experience its wildlife.

Lions were our next target to capture and as the driver said luck was on our side we did spot a lion and 2 lionesses very soon. Not only did we see them but witnessed their mating ritual as well. So there was nothing more that we could have asked for from this wonderful trip of ours. The sun was setting and it was an indication for us to return back to our camp.

Some times unexpected things happen at unexpected time and some times unwanted things happen at unwanted times… Nature’s call is one such thing that can call upon anyone at anytime especially when you spend all afternoon and evening filling your tummy with free flowing cokes and sprites. So it did happen to us... Now what do you when you have to "do" in the middle of a jungle surrounded by lions and cheetah? You drive.. and you drive, and you drive till you reach the middle of the field from where you can see all the animals and especially in such a situation you know for a fact that all the animals are definitely staring at you… Hence I told the driver “Why you don’t take us near the bushes?” to which he replied “I don’t want you people to be the “yum-yum” for the lions.” Wow! What a day! The entire day’s experience was too much to take, for the things I had seen and done, I had never ever experienced before...

However, after reaching the camp we had delicious hot chocolate and headed for dinner. Having dinner under the star lit sky next to a bonfire was beautiful and romantic. We never realized that it would get so cold that we started missing our shawls and sweaters. We were almost through with our dinner when all of a sudden a group of Masai tribe wearing their authentic dresses came and sang and danced to their tribal song. Aakaash, as enthusiastic as he is joined them in their last round of tribal dance and I was so glad I could capture it perfectly on our handy cam only to realize that when the dance ended I had forgotten to press the record button.

Anyway, we were thrilled to get back to our rooms/tents at 9pm and we had only an hour to unpack, make the kids sleep, tuck them in bed, wash Aananya’s bottles, sterilize bottles as well as prepare the backpack for the morning. (We were told when we checked in that the electricity was for a limited amount of time and since there was no source of power, electricity was supplied by generators. Hence electricity timing was distributed according to the bare miminum needs: - 5am-6am, 11am-12pm, 2pm-3pm and 6pm to 10pm.) So after 10pm, we used kerosene lanterns in the room. It was a wonderful experience to stay up at night with kerosene lanterns and be surrounded by the wild animals. If you want to experience nature at its best, Royal Mara is the place to be. It is the ideal place to get away from the rat race that we have to run every single day of our lives. The staff of Masai Mara was kind to accommodate and make changes according to our needs and hence upon my request they removed a bed from our adjacent room which had no partition and in some ways was a part of one big room. They gave us a queen-size mattress where Aan and Aananya slept together for the 1st time.

We had been so excited and ecstatic in the morning that we decided that at night we would defiantly sit outside and sip hot chocolate and inhale the beauty that had totally smitten us. So after finishing off the chores, tucking kids to bed, we decided to have a romantic lantern light hot chocolate outside in the balcony. Although we could hear the noise made by baboons, hippos and something unknown, after the lights were switched off at 10pm we unzipped our tent and stepped out into the balcony. We were warned by the Royal Mara staff that hippos tend to come out of the water and walk around the tent at night and there was also a sighting of a Cheetah near our tent a week back. However the noises of baboon and hippos got louder and we decided to take our cups right inside where it belonged and went off to sleep to start another adventurous day.

“The Morning Game Drive”

No matter how hard we tried we were almost always the last ones to arrive. Our friends were sweet enough to always give us an understanding bow, knowing that we were a family of 4 with an infant. Nevertheless every time we managed to beat another family was always a family of 5. So by 6/7am in the morning we took our places in the jeep and headed for the game drive. Lo behold to our surprise the 1st thing we saw was the Cheetah that had tried hard to get some supper last evening. The only difference today was that it had a nice round belly which meant that probably during the night he was successful in getting dinner for himself. The way we got to know that it was the same Cheetah was due to an injury he had in his hind leg. Today he was in no mood of showing any action and was just lazing around in the sun. So we left him in peace and headed to see the other animals.

After the game drive we came back to our lodge, had breakfast, went to our rooms to freshen up and the men went for “nature walk” because kids weren’t allowed and there was a lot of walking involved. So the guys had a nice time seeing deers, hippos, crocodiles, impalas, ostrich etc while I made the kids ready for lunch.

Today we were not going to be served under the huge trees of the Royal Mara but were taken for “Bush Lunch”. When our jeeps stopped, we couldn’t believe our eyes. We were standing in the middle of no where, with beautiful tables laid, a chef turning meat on the barbeque grill, a buffet table with a variety of food to choose from and kind people to serve. We filled our plates with food and sat down to enjoy our meal; we could see far away herds of deers, gazelles, wild beasts, impalas and zebras moving around and having their lunch along with us. The view, the feeling, the experience is beyond words.

After lunch we came back to Royal Mara and had just about enough time to wash, sterilize Aananya’s bottles and make the diaper bag/ back pack ready for the evening game drive. Electricity was given at such times so as to cover the bare minimum time that we spent in the rooms. While we waited for our guard to escort us to the jeep, we spent time watching the wild hippos flickering their ears from under the water just outside our room.

For the evening game drive we were taken to White Rhino Camp which was an hour’s drive. On our way, we saw so many towers of giraffes, antelopes, wild fowls, elephant and many more animals. Picture this- clouded sky, beautiful cold breeze, towers of giraffes running and your car is driving parallel to it. While driving along with running giraffes, the scenic view was breathtaking.

After we returned from the game drive I spoke to the Royal Mara’s manager and I requested if as a favor he could arrange a night game drive for all of us. Once we finished the dinner, I inquired about the night drive and to our disappointment, he said only one vehicle and one tracker was available but they couldn’t arrange for a spot light. However my perseverance and persistence paid off and a tracker with a spot light was arranged. The only hitch being that there was only 1 car and we were 18 heads including kids. Lisa, a Malaysian friend was kind enough to back out with her 3 kids so that her husband and all of us could go but I wouldn’t have let that happen. We were in this together. So I convinced everyone that I and few others could stand and rest could sit with their kids and we finally squeezed ourselves in one jeep and moved into the mystical night to see some wildlife action and adventure. We did spot the now usual deers, giraffes, hippos out of the water, a lot of hares bouncing around, hyenas, jackals etc. To see these animals and to be out in an open jungle in the middle of night gave the thrill and excitement that we all were looking for.

On our return to the lodge I could see impalas, deers and a hare running away from outside our room as our jeep approached to drop us. “Tomorrow would be the last morning game drive” I thought. It was  12am yet the Royal Mara staff was kind enough to give us electricity for ½ an hour for us to settle in. While tucking the kids to bed, I saw Aan and Aananya both were running fever hence I decided to stay back with the kids and Aakaash went for the morning game drive. After he returned we packed quickly and moved to the muddy air strip to crawl our way into the tiny aircraft.

This was one vacation I can never ever forget in my entire life. Although none of us wanted to leave we said our goodbye’s to the Masai Mara animals and headed for Nairobi. We reached there in the evening and met up with old friends from Sri Lanka, gorged on Indian food and rested for the next day’s flight back to Lagos, Nigeria.

Thankfully Aan and Aananya behaved and our journey was comfortable and smooth. The moment I got back, I was back on my laptop finalizing our plans for my dream destination - Australia.

The Journey to Nairobi

All were pumped up and boarded the bus to the airport with full excitement. What lay ahead was beyond anyone’s imagination……

Our journey on the flight was disturbing, not only physically but also mentally. All the kids exhausted us physically and Aananya’s high fever drained us mentally. Her body temperature was so high that we had to do cold sponge mid air. By the time our flight landed we had no other option but to run to the hospital even before we could keep our luggage in the apartment.

Thanks to our friends who took care of Aan while we were at the hospital and an Indian couple from Ericsson (Nairobi) who were with us at the hospital till all the tests and medications were done and given to Aananya. We took a clear chit from the Doctor since the next day we were flying to Massai Mara which was miles away from civilization and the only way to reach a Doctor would be to take a chartered flight. Thankfully Aananya’s fever was under control and we decided to take our flight to Massai Mara. Something I could have never dreamt of going to a few years back but always had a desire to see.

Surprising Decision

Hi... So we meet again...

Some times it's just good to flow with the course of water instead of trying to make your own way...

People who know me are aware that I prefer to plan everything well in advance, therefore they would be surprised to know the unexpected turn of events that are happening to me lately.

As I told you in my last blog that I had already decided on my next destination so my research work was on. Now was the time to implement, hence when I came back from Italy, I immediately gave my passport to get the Nigerian Visa which takes 2 weeks and then proceeded to give my application for a new passport which I am in dire need since I had only 1 empty page left. After I got the accepted application's docket number, I immediately applied for the Australian Visa with an application stating information regarding the passport since many countries deny visa on the pretext that there are not sufficient pages on the passport. While this was happening the long awaited 4 days weekend was approaching and as I said before, all the families take great advantage of these opportunities and head out for a vacation...

Imagine, seeing everyone confirm their 4 days plan I was restless like a fish without water. I also wanted to go; knowing fully well that the only chance I had was if I get my passport back from South Africa where the Australian Visa was applied for.

I had the schenegan visa which entitled me to visit most of the European countries and to my surprise exactly a week before the holidays my passport arrived and I straight on started dreaming of the possibilities of going to Europe since to apply and obtain a Visa for another country was impossible unless the country issued Visa on arrival.

Anyhow Aakaash was the one to burst my bubble and make me realize that I had no more pages left and the possibility to go to a different country was gr8 but when I would come back to Nigeria which I had to since my house is here, it wouldn't be possible due to lack of pages and with no Visa no entry :(

So I bid farewell to my beautiful dreams of going for a vacation and became a dormant listener to others overly excited plans for their trip. During such conversations, someone gave me an idea to get an emergency passport. Idea was immediately executed into action and just 2 days before i.e on the 24th November we applied for a new passport which I got just a day before the travel date.

P.S - All the paper work and execution of plan is always done by Aakaash... I am just the mastermind ;)
However when Aakaash was doing all the administration work, we had kind of decided to go to Kenya since 3 more families were heading there and had almost finalized all the boarding and lodging arrangements.

According to our tentative plans earlier this year, Masai Mara was the destination for the month of September but then we changed it to Italy. However I had done a lot of research at that point of time and knew some pretty good places to stay and had contacted the resort too. So just 2 days before the flight I took my chances and sent a mail to Royal Mara resort who responded immediately and gave us a good deal for all 4 families. Now the challenge was to tell the 3 families that there was another option to their almost finalized plan. To my relief we didn’t have to persuade or convince anyone to stay in my chosen resort since after seeing the website of Royal Mara, everyone was enticed and tempted to stay there and the experience was indeed incredible.

Venice- City of Love

There I was sitting in the Euro Star going to my next destination 2 and 1/2 hours away from Florence - Venice. Was traveling with mixed feelings - Excited since it is supposed to be a very romantic city and sad that this was our last destination for this splendid 9 days vacation.

So we finally checked into our hotel and the room had amazing decor; the best I have stayed in till date... every fixture had beautiful carvings and the whole room's colour combination was rustic red... After settling in we decided to venture out... Went to Piazza La Roma (the port) by bus and then took the water bus. It's amazing to see how they live their entire life in water. Travelling in water buses or water taxis, their mails and couriers coming in water boats. It's really splendid...

Some people say Venice has become very dirty and the water stinks... I never found anything like that even though I was there in their peak season, when supposedly it should be more dirty..
The place is beautiful... we saw the beautiful architecture of the place and shopped a little......ate a little.....

When the time was around sunset, we decided to take the gondola.. Now picture this....

We are going in the gondola... beautiful weather.. sun is about to set.. the guy rowing the boat is singing a lovely, probably a romantic Italian love song and....
Aananya decides to do potty :)
Since it was an hour's ride we seeked permission from the gondola guy to clean her in the gondola while he sang...
So here we were in the most romantic place, in the most romantic gondola... cleaning potty... :) Well that's life with kids ;) But no regrets whatsoever..
How many people can claim that they have cleaned their baby in a gondola in Venice?? And how many babies can claim that either???? :)

The next day we headed to all the small Islands near by, saw the glass factory at Murano and the exhibition... Liked a glass set.. cost of "each" glass was 28,000rs. put it right back from where I picked it, admired it and moved on ;)

I am so glad that I made the decision to go to Italy and have come back with beautiful memories that will stay on with me forever......

While on our flight back.. watched movies with a vengeance.. Saw Hanna Montana, Hangover and Luck by chance (back to back)... and then was home again...
However the next day was online again, busy preparing for my next holiday ;) We will just have to wait and see how that turns out ;)

Florence

Alright.. So we took this beautiful train journey to Florence passing through picturesque view of the country side of Italy.. We were in Florence within 1 and 1/2 hour of leaving Rome. Although I never felt like leaving Rome in the first place and wanted to stay there a little longer, I was equally anxious to see how our entire trip would turn out..

Usually Aakaash is the one who always selects hotels for us and his choice is 99.9% good, however this is for the 1st time we both were very apprehensive about our choice of accommodation since it was going to be our 1st experience staying in a hostel accommodation. These accommodations are usually taken by backpackers and is highly popular amongst youths... It is actually a hostel like set up with dorm, shared rooms, private rooms with shared or private baths etc for travelers... I thought it would be a crammed room with old or dirty walls and not a very clean bathroom..

To our utmost surprise the whole experience was new and wonderfully pleasant. First of all we were greeted at the reception by a very friendly staff. We had booked a private room with 3 beds and a private bath for us, so at the reception we were handed sheets and pillow covers for our room.. Holding the sheets felt odd and I was also dreading to go to the 3rd floor to find out what was waiting there for me.

As the lift opened to the 3rd floor, I was surprised to see beautiful red walls with complementing wall paintings and beautifully done up doors. There was a little relief for me but I was anxious to see what was behind the door... when I opened the door.....
Nothing could stop my beaming smile, for in-front of me was a small dresser with 3 cupboards, a very clean bathroom ( I choose my rooms based on clean bathrooms ;) ) and .........
a single bed, a double bed and on top of the double bed was a bunker bed and it wasn't one of those conjusted bunker beds where you pity the person who is below since there was enough space that Aan could easily stand without his head hitting the base of the bunker bed...

So very quickly I spread the sheets while giggling since it was kinda reminding me of my hostel days and the bunker bed was giving a feeling like we were traveling in a train... remember the way you have to stand and spread the sheets on the top berth of a train"). Aan was extremely thrilled that he staked claim to the top bed all to himself. However when the excitement of running up and down the bed was over, we decided it was time to leave the hotel, oops hostel, and head for some interesting site seeing...

We took the hop on hop off bus for the day and this bus had 2 routes.. So we quickly finished one tour and waited for the other and to our surprise this bus took us to another city called Fiesole. The scenery and location was so beautiful, it was a small hill station with tall bell and clock towers with fine architecture and nippy weather :)

After site seeing we reached our hotel at night and realized we were just too tired to go out for dinner and decided to have dinner in the hostel's cafeteria where we ordered Italiano and it was delicious.. while waiting for dinner, we played a few shots of pool and that made us remember our dating days and my college days...

Next day we went to Piza city which was an hours journey by train to see the Leaning Tower of Piza and then came back to Florence. From Piza City I wanted to go to Volterra ( where I believe New Moon ( movie) has been shot ). Purpose of visit to Volterra - Twilight Saga fan.. Anyway, due to the time crunch couldn't fulfill that wish.... although surprisingly Aakaash was ready to chase my madness along with the kids but it was cutting too fine and probability of getting stuck in know where was higher.. If I get a chance again I would probably do it sometime in the future..
As I said Italy is a place where you can go again and again.. It has so much to offer and so much of history and beauty that you are bound to go back ..

Rome - spectacular view

OK! So I am a person who starts packing "minimum" 3 days in advance before any trip and here I am on the last day trying to stuff bare minimum things inside the suitcase due to the strict instructions that I should not expect my husband to carry so much of luggage on the small lanes and bridges of Venice. However, I did manage to accomplish what he had asked and we just had 1 big suitcase, a trolley bag with one huge rucksack and of course not to forget the diaper bag which I have become used to for the last 3 and 1/2 years of my life... { BTW another colleague of his ( family of 4 ) were traveling with 6 bags in all... hmmphh }

Anyway.. so we are all set to go.. reached his office from where we boarded the office bus with police escort.. ( we get that for security purpose ) Nigeria is known not be a very safe place...

Reached airport on time, boarded the flight on time.. Although had to wait at the check in counter for more than an hour since there seemed to be some problem with my ticket (again) for which we were compensated with free access to the lounge... ;)

Boarded the flight.. kids were sweet enough to sleep through most of the flight.. Was tempted to watch a movie but thought of Rome and decided against it.. Changed the flight at Frankfurt, boarded again.. slept again as much as Aananya allowed... and....

Finally the plane landed in Rome.... hotel was nice too.. only problem - had to pull the luggage to the room which was on the 2nd floor.. well not much of a problem for me as I had Aananya in my arms.. problem part was for Aakaash..
1 double bed and a single bed ... joined all the beds together.. had a comfortable stay..
The location was excellent. close to the Termini station, bus stop, church.. all in all I can say "indeed a prime location"...

First day:-
By the time we came out of the room, we decided just to do a lil shopping/ window shopping.. look around... just enjoy the weather...
Had Italian food out in the open right next to the Church with the church bells ringing from time to time with a spectacular weather and view.. It was like we were in a different time..
Came back to the hotel, tried to rest as much as possible to be charged up for the next day..

Second Day:-
Took the hop on hop off bus, saw the Colosseum, booked a tour... got to know about it's history and they took us to the forum and Palatine hill ruins. A tour guide is a must else the place would hold no meaning at all... and you would find it a waste of time.. The view from the top was so beautiful, you could see the entire Rome... It's very hard to describe in words the beauty that Rome holds...
This place took up so much time of ours that we decided to sit tight on the hop on and hop off bus and got down only near the trevi fountain which is just so spectacular unlike anything I have ever seen... Of course didn't forget to make a wish and threw in a coin, wonder what Aakaash wished for??? hmmm...
So Aan wanted to make 2 wishes and threw 2 coins, 1st wish - a burger and 2nd wish - water!! However his 2nd wish was granted immediately and for the 1st wish he just had to wait for a day!

Third day:-
I was very excited since today was the day I was visiting Vatican City, the smallest country in the world.. well I didn;t know that either.. Just as you enter the Vatican City, it looks like you have entered a different world all together.. The workmanship is so fine that makes you wonder how artistic and meticulous those people would have been.. You have to be there to feel the power that they would have felt...

Fourth day:-
We went and saw Spanish Steps, Pantheon and all the other tourist spots we could cover. In between a lil bit of shopping and got caught in the rain so decided to halt and eat at one of the cafes, hogging on Italian food, sitting outside under a small umbrella where we could hear the pitter patter of the rain.. This was the perfect way to end the beautiful trip to Rome but I was looking forward to my train journey to Florence...
Italy is a place that makes you feel things you haven't felt before.. I suggest it is a must to go there and it should be put on everyone's wish list...

preparation for the journey

This is for the 1st time that I really felt like writing something.. Although I am not very good with words but I am writing this blog for my sis and my family... I wanted to share the experience that I had with them..

Somehow I wanted to write this blog from Italy itself but due to the hectic and tiring schedule never had the courage to stay up late and do so.. Anyway its never too late till the time you do so.. right!!!

Anyway.. So it starts from ...
ohh by the way any time you feel bored.. you can leave.. no compulsions ;) to read further ahead....;)

ok.. So finally it starts from have 2 holidays together after sunday which is a rare phenomenon in Lagos.. So almost all families were trying to capitalise on this and so was I.. Since I am the one who decides on destination.. ( per sey my fav destinations or wish list destinations as I call )... My sweet hubby simply agrees and abides by my decision since he knows my choice has to be the best.. Do you think he has a choice where he can really dispute that???? He too is my choice isn't it?

Anyway, so initially we or I had decided on Egypt... The factors :- Only 4 days to cover the entire place.. and 4 days was enough to bare the brunt of the heat of Egypt... So suddenly my dear husband whose practically 2nd wife is his work came up with the idea of taking 3 more days leave and seeing some other place like .... like.... ITALY...

So I grabbed on the opportunity and started my research work.. which almost ate my entire week including the weekends but at the end it was worth it..

Ya so to go on with my story..
So finally we decided to go to Italy and gave the visa application for Sweden because we could get visa faster since as you know Aakaash works for Ericsson which is a Swedish company and probably might retire from this company one day ( a joke cracked by my friends often) !!! He has been working here for 10 years now.. However the visa needs to be sent to Abuja which is another place ( 1hour flight from Lagos). The visa could be sent only on tue due to the policies etc and could come back on thur which was cutting it too fine since we wanted to fly on Friday night.. However we were sweating on Thursday and weren't able to book our flights or hotels due to the visa prob... Mind you this is suppose to be the "peakest" season according to Italian.. as published on their websites..

We were practically running against and out of time.. On Thursday morning we got a green light and started the 2nd round of work.. - book flight tickets.. well that is another story too...

So we asked for 4 tickets to be blocked on Monday and went ahead with our hotel bookings.. wait a minute I never said that the flight story was over.. So on thursday when we asked to confirm our tickets the travel agents tells us there are no tickets available for Friday.. Now remember we have already finished booking our hotels... Finally the travel agent does manage to get tickets from another airlines and that's when we realise that Aananya's age has been made 2 instead of 1, an error on my husband's part.. Finally when that is corrected.. we realise that the return ticket has been booked from Vienna instead of Venice. Last but not the least when that error is corrected, the tickets that are handed to us are 3 instead of 4... So this was the story of how the tickets were finally confirmed for 4.

Now that we have 4 tickets in hand.. there comes the part of hotel bookings which I was exhausted mentally and physically looking for by now... I just booked for Rome and left Florence and Venice for aakaash to complete. However we got good deals in the end but to find a hotel in center of Venice where I eventually wanted to stay was costing for around 50000rs per night.. So we settled for less and I dropped the idea of watching the canal and gondolas floating right below from my room.. About my journey to Italy would be in the next blog that I write..... since being a mom doesn't give the liberty to stay online for such long hours..;) Ciao... as the Italian say!!!!
